'My heart dropped': Stunned person saves helpless kitten from a 12-year-old boy who was throwing her into the trash, takes her and brings her home, where her kindness is instantly rewarded

The way that kids treat cats is one of the best indicators of whether they are good humans or not. 

And it really can go either way. Not all kids are bad, and not all kids are good. We have seen kids rescuing kittens that have been abandoned, we have seen kids trying to harm kittens, and we have seen kids saving kittens from those other kids who were harming them. We would like to say that we are not surprised when either happens, but somehow, we are surprised by both. We both don't expect the cruelty that some kids have in their hearts to be able to harm innocent creatures like these, but we also don't expect the maturity that they would have to show to rescue kittens in need of help. 

Today's story has both - the bad kid and the god kid. Unfortunately, we don't know the age of the person who saved this kitty, so we can't quite add it to our stats. But we do know that this person is a daughter, a daughter who brought the kitten she rescued to her mom, no less. And so the age doesn't matter. No matter how old she is now, we know that this is one child who was raised right.

    Yesterday I rescued a kitten, and I'm still emotionally shaken by how it happened.

    I saw a 12-year-old boy holding a tiny kitten in his hands. She was small, fragile, and clearly terrified. Then I realized what he was about to do he was trying to put her on the trash. Not near it. Not beside it. On the trash, like she was something disposable. My heart dropped.

    I immediately stopped him and told him he couldn't do that, that she was a baby and wouldn't survive. What started as a desperate attempt to save her quickly turned into a fight.

    Words were exchanged, voices were raised, and for a moment I felt completely overwhelmed. But I refused to walk away. I couldn't leave her there. I wouldn't. So I took the kitten.

    She was shaking in my hands, so light and quiet that it broke me. In that moment, I felt the fear she couldn't express and the trust she had no choice but to give. I brought her home, not knowing what the future held-only knowing that she was finally safe.

    I don't think people realize how much it means to have someone who supports your compassion instead of questioning it. I really love my mom for that. She always stands by me and the work I do.

    Rescue isn't new to me. I regularly feed around 25 street cats in my area, care for injured animals, and help kittens survive when the streets fail them. I do this because every life matters, even the ones people try to throw away.

    Today, that kitten is warm, safe, and loved. And no matter how hard the fight was yesterday, I'd do it all over again.

  • Some things will forever and always be shocking to us, and kids doing things like this to helpless animals will always be one of them. This is the kind of behavior that should not be accepted by any decent parents. It is something that kids should be explicitly taught not to do - to not harm others. And since there is a part of us that wants to give the parents the benefit of the doubt, we will, and we will say that if this is something inherent in the kid, if this is not their fault, then the only thing that we regret would be you not being able to reach out and inform the parents of their child's behavior, so that they might notice the early signs of the madness that you saw unfolding before you.

    Few days back I shared the story of this little kitten, and I honestly didn't expect so much love and kindness from all of you. The comments, messages, and support meant more than I can put into words. So many of you asked for an update, and I'm really happy to share one today. She's safe. She's loved. And she's home.

  • We could not have asked for a better update. And this kitten, truly, could not have asked for a better human. For you to do what you did, to go out of your way and confront someone doing something this crazy, despite the risk to yourself… this kitten could not be in safer hands. She is in the best place that she can pawssibly be right now.

    After rescuing her, we brought her home, and my mom immediately accepted her as part of our family. We already have cats at home, and I was a little nervous at first but I'm so happy to say that everyone has been incredibly gentle with her. They're already becoming friends. They play with her, sleep near her, and treat her like she's always belonged here.

    It's honestly so emotional to see how far she's come in such a short time. From almost being thrown away, to now running around the house, playing fearlessly, and completely winning everyone's hearts. She's tiny, but somehow she's already in charge of the house.

    I do rescues regularly and take care of many street cats, but this one feels especially close to my heart. Maybe because of how close she was to losing everything or maybe because of how much love she's received since then, from my family and from all of you.
